SPEN Victoria moved top of Bradford League Second Team Division Two on Sunday thanks to a 37-run derby victory at Cleckheaton.

Sam Sharp (41), Massaver Masadiq (28) and Mark Loker (28) were the leading Spen run scorers as they were bowled out for 166.

Luke Pearson claimed 3-32 for Cleckheaton, while Sam Gatenby, Rob Brown and Liam Bleazard collected two wickets apiece.

Shahid Rehman (45) was Cleckheaton’s leading scorer in reply but they were bowled out for 129 as Masadiq capped a fine game by claiming 3-33.

Danny Simpson collected 3-32, while Ahsan Zia and Tom Raven picked up two wickets each as Spen moved a point clear of Bradford & Bingley Seconds.

It wasn’t a good weekend for Cleckheaton’s second team as they suffered a 134-run defeat at Idle last Saturday.

Tom Johnson hit six sixes and five fours in a brilliant 82 not out, while Dave Pearce (50), Tony Brassington (40) and Nick Sugden also got among the runs in Idle’s 240-2 in 37 overs.

Shahid Rehman (27) was Cleckheaton’s top scorer in reply as they were bowled out for 106 with Chirag Patel (3-36) pick of the bowling.

Only a handful of games survived the weather last week, with East Bierley seconds moving up to fourth place in Second Teams Division One thanks to a 107-run success over Woodlands.

John Davis (31) and Sean Raven (31) were Bierley’s leading scorers in their 160-8, with Christian Jackson (3-25) and Elliot Richardson (3-31) impressing with the ball for Woodlands.

Rob Warriner claimed 4-23 in reply but star of the show was John Glover as he claimed four wickets for just four runs in a devastating 5.3 over spell as Woodlands were bowled out for just 53.

Farsley moved to within a point of second teams Division One leaders Hanging Heaton after they recorded a five-wicket win over Gomersal, who stay bottom.

Phil Carter (58) and Liam Grant (40) top scored in Gomersal’s 180 all out, with Robert Thornton (4-45) pick of the Farsley bowling.

Farsley raced to 183-5 in 31.3 overs as Craig Thornton hit 80 and Stuart Kirk 38 not out.

Pudsey St Lawrence recorded a six wicket win over Saltaire in the only first team Bradford League Division One match to survive the weather and they moved second, 28 points behind leaders Woodlands.
