HANGING Heaton suffered a disappointing 75-run defeat to Nottinghamshire Premier League side Cuckney as they bowed out of the ECB National Cup last Sunday.

Heaton had high hopes of progressing to the last 16 of the competition for the first time but a poor batting display let them down.

Heaton bowled well early on with Rob McFarlane bowling a tidy nine over spell which saw him claim 2-21.

David Stiff (2-31) also shone with the ball but a late flurry of runs boosted the Cuckney total.

Will Root, brother of Yorkshire’s Joe, made a patient 50 from 65 balls but then accelerated his innings, racing to 100 in just a further 25 balls.

Root hit five fours and five sixes, including three in one over from Nick Bresnan, as he finished 101 not out as Cuckney closed on 188-7.

Heaton lost wickets at regular intervals in reply, with Ismail Dawood (27) the only batsman to impress as they were bowled out for 113 in the 32nd over, as Will Butler claimed 5-24 from 6.5 overs.
