Moorlands secure terrific win over high flying Honley

Victory allowed Moorlands to move into sixth place in a campaign which inconsistency has prevented them from being much higher in the table.

Defeat for Honley also allowed Hoylandswaine to extend their lead at the top to 22 points and they were well on course to clinch back-to-back league titles.

Honley appeared set for a large total as they reached 169-3 with captain Timmy Taylor (63) and the experienced Ryan Robinson (48) setting a decent platform.

Moorlands fought back superbly as Nicky Smith (4-58) and David Winn (4-31) led the way and the last seven wickets fell for 38 runs as they were bowled out for 207.

Nathan Rabnott led the reply with 97 to set Moorlands up for a terrific win.

Eddie Walmsley (67) finishing the job as Moorlands reached their target for the loss of four wickets, with more than 10 overs remaining.

Sam Denton (4-37) took all the wickets for Honley but his efforts were in vain.

Hoylandswaine took full advantage of Honley’s slip-up as they cantered to victory over Scholes.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers slipped into the bottom two after suffering defeat at home to Kirkburton.

Daniel Broadbent (66) led the way for Parish but although several players made good starts, none were able to go on to make telling contributions as they were restricted to 278-9.

David Bolt and Daniel Hope made 37 apiece, while Tim Orrell (25), Muhammad Ali (27) and Terence James (26) all reached the twenties.

Andy Smith (3-104) had an unwanted century next to his name but he got his side off to the perfect start in reply with a half century off 46 balls.

Kirkburton kept vital wickets in hand with Jonny Butterfield (41), Toby Booth (82no) and captain Craig Fletcher (50no) all contributed with useful knocks in Kirkburton’s winning reply of 279-4.

Kirkburton were victorious with a comfortable cushion of 20 balls remaining.

Parish are second-bottom, level on 24 points with Armitage Bridge and a point behind Cawthorne.

Parish face a tough game at home to Honley on Saturday, while Moorlands visit fourth placed Shepley before the first Mirfield derby of the season on Sunday when the Cavaliers make the short trip to Memorial Park.

Mirfield slipped to second-bottom in the Conference after they suffered a 117-run defeat against promotion chasing Marsden.

Openers Max Berry (69) and Martin Kyle (63) led the way for Marsden as they shared a 135-run first wicket stand.

Harry Bissett struck 34 late on as Marsden posted 230 all out, with Adam Goldthorpe claiming 4-55.

Sher Khanagha top scored with 46 in reply but Mirfield were bowled out for 113 as Jack McNamara (4-13) and Mark Johnson (3-48) sealed the win.
