Sauer falls for 99 but Crossbank secure win

There was a bitter sweet day for Crossbank Methodists batsman Paul Sauer during his side's Bradford League Conference clash against Sandal.

The South African suffered the agony of being dismissed for 99 but he had the consolation of helping his side to a 21-run win.

Sauer’s innings came off 75 balls and included nine fours and seven sixes before he was bowled by Kieran Dransfield as Crossbank were dismissed for 170 with Ben Van Den Nieuwenhof taking 5-48.

James Abbott continued his recent good form as he took 5-20 as Sandal were bowled out for 149 with Dransfield making an unbeaten 49 batting at number nine.

Adwalton are the new leaders after they defeated Rodley by five wickets to take advantage of Jer Lane’s two-wicket defeat by Great Preston.

Adwalton (153 points) are seven clear of Jer Lane, with Oulton a further four points back after their 87-run win over Heckmondwike & Carlinghow.

Ben Child was Oulton’s star performer with an unbeaten 113 which enabled them to post a total of 247-9.

Child hit two sixes and 13 fours against a bowling attack led by Paul Cooper (4-32).

Usman Qureshi (48) and Riffat Kiani (38) were the main contributors in reply but Heckmondwike were bowled out for 160 with Jack Andrews the best Oulton bowler returning fine figures of 4-39.
