Cup progress for lively Moor but Birstall Vic crash out at Wibsey

Dewsbury Moor 38

Illingworth 6

DEWSBURY Moor progressed to the third round of the Pennine President’s Cup with a convincing victory over Illingworth.

Forwards A Robinson and Aidy Moore proved a handful for the Halifax based side. Both players made some defence splitting breaks which resulted in tries for the Eatherley and R Smith.

Moor full-back J Riding gathered the high ball and he cleared his lines, with support from Mortimore.

Moor broke from inside their own half and Bartley O’Brian, Smith and P Robinson linked to put Richardson over.

Although Illingworth tried hard to hit back Frazer Jackson was solid in defence and helped to keep them pointless at half-time.

P Robinson supported a good break to score and with Eatherley adding the goals Moor led 32-0 at the break.

Despite some solid defending, Illingworth scored a consolation try.

Moor made too many errors when in good field positions before Wilson added their only try of the second half.

A Moore and A Robinson were Moor’s outstanding forwards, with O’Brian leading the way for the backs.

In the same competition Birstall Victoria lost 56-0 at Wibsey.

The Vic lads competed well in the first half but after the break they were unpicked by a Wibsey side who are on an unbeaten run and flying high in the league
