Deegan leads way in impressive Spen Vic success

George Deegan just missed out on a deserved century with 98 as Spen made 185.

Umar Abbas picked up three wickets in four balls as he finished with 5-9.

Hopton Mills were undone by Rob Warriner (4-25) and Bradley Davis (3-8) as they were bowled out for just 69.

Adam Greenwood took 4-51 and followed up with 40 as Gomersal defeated Hartshead Moor by seven wickets.

Left-armer James Russell (4-2) was the other key bowler as Hartshead were restricted to 192-9. Matthew Evans was the top scorer with 39.

Gomersal’s reply featured telling contributions from George Senior (70), Jonathan Boynton (49no) and Greenwood (40).

Kiwi Matthew Holstei took 5-12 as Altofts dismissed lowly Brighouse for 87 and then took just 19.1 overs to seal victory with Rashid Yousaf making an unbeaten 39.

Methley opener Marcus Walmsley made a stunning 155 not out, including five sixes and 20 fours, and shared in a second-wicket stand of 113 with Ashton Blakey (50) as they posted 280-5.

Walmsley rounded off an outstanding performance by taking 5-28 as Carlton were dismissed for 158.

All-rounder Luke Patel was in good form for second-placed Wrenthorpe as they defeated Bowling Old Lane by three wickets.

Old Lane, the only side to defeat leaders Townville this season, were bowled out for 206 as spinner Patel (4-63) and Chris Leaf (4-30) led the way. Abid Alishan (58) and Sadaqat Zaman (45) were the top scorers.

Wrenthorpe had to overcome some good bowling from Adal Islam (5-62) before reaching their target.

Patel top scored with 59 and had good support from Greg Wood (44), James Glynn (41) and Leaf (35no).

Wrenthorpe are 43 points adrift of Townville who had little trouble in defeating Bankfoot by six wickets.

The home side had no answer to the bowling of Conor Harvey (6-44) as they were dismissed for 118 as Marupuri Suresh (44) and Hishan Ahmed (31) led the way.

Townville, with 61 overs at their disposal, cruised home with 36.5 of them to spare. Opener Jonathan Booth top scored for the leaders with 54.
