The club have hastily arranged the inaugural Ged Brentnall Memorial Trophy, which will be competed for by six teams from Dewsbury Moor but it is hoped the competition will expand in future years.

Senior players at Dewsbury Moor have been discussing a way to pay tribute to a man who gave so much to their club and rugby league in general.

A club spokesman said: “We are hoping to make this an annual event around Easter time.

“This year is an internal tournament but we will be looking to grow this competition in years to come so we can continue to remember the legacy that Ged made within his time involved in rugby league.”

Each squad will have a maximum of 10 players and the six teams who will compete on Satureday are Toby’s Titans, chosen by Toby Richardson, Adleigh’s Heroes, chosen by Cameron Adleigh, Bownass’s Bulldogs, chosen By John Bownass, Lynx Legends, chosen by Allan Samme, Ady’s Has Beens, featuring past Dewsbury Moor players, and Squires Squirrells, a Dewsbury Moor club members select team.

The first game will start at noon and there will be food and refreshments available throughout the day, with a full presentation in the club to follow.

The Dewsbury Moor club are hoping for a good turn out as they look to celebrate a man who gave so much for rugby league in the Heavy Woollen area.
