Dewsbury Moor U18s storm to Yorkshire Cup semis

Dewsbury Moor Under-18s stormed into the BARLA Yorkshire Cup semi-finals with a 46-1 victory over Lock Lane.

Cameron Adleigh scored a try and kicked seven conversions for a tally of 18 points.

County players John Bownass and Cain Crotty led a solid pack display, with support from Caden Wilkinson, Hamza Riaz, Alex Hollingworth, Jacob Crosswell and Archie Bruce.

Max Vernon strode through a gap to score, followed soon after by a Tom Kay try, with Adleigh adding both conversions.

Bradley Samme was on the end of a neat passing move to score near the posts and Adleigh again converted.

Prop Bownass broke clear and sent Adleigh over as Moor led 22-0 at half-time.

Moor continued playing open rugby and after Connor Ineson went close, good handling allowed Vernon to score with Adleigh adding the goal.

Aiden Sheard raced down the left but the speedy winger was caught by the Lock Lane defence, although it set up field position which allowed Bruce to score and Adleigh again converted.

Bruce then out-paced the visitors’ defence on a 40 metre run to the line. Adleigh goaled.

Vernon crossed for Moor’s final try after Elliot Sheard was tackled close to the line and Adleigh again converted.

Lock Lane finally got on the scoreboard with a late drop goal but Moor’s victory sets up a plum home semi-final against West Hull.

Three of Dewsbury Moor’s other junior sides will be aiming to reach the semi-finals this Sunday as the Under-15s visit Lock Lane, the Under-14s host Headingley Hawks and the Under-12s are at Kippax.

n Shaw Cross Sharks have three teams in this weekend’s Yorkshire Cup quarter-finals after progressing last week.

The Under-12s had a close game against West Hull, winning 14-8, and now visit Milford Marlins on Sunday.

The Under-13s tie went to extra-time after a 14-14 draw but the Sharks proved stronger to run out 30-14 winners and now entertain Featherstone Lions.

The Under-15s went down 24-0 to a strong West Hull side but the Under-16s beat Skirlaugh 28-0 to earn a home tie with Dewsbury Celtic.
