Dewsbury Moor youngsters produce determined effort in defeat

Moor fielded virtually their Under-18s side, with a sprinkling of experienced players, and did well against an older visiting side.

One of the more experienced players, Adie Moore, led Moor well with support from the returning Kyle Wadsworth.

The first half was evenly matched and it was no surprise when the lively Elliot Sheard picked up a loose ball and raced 70 metres for a storming try which Brad Samme improved.

Moore helped spread the ball wide for Brad Samme, Joe Longstaffe and Jake Bardell to make good breaks.

Wortley survived the pressure and after creating several chances themselves, the Dragons eventually crossed for a converted try to level matters.

Moor moved play to the other end and after Craig O’Donnell, Alex Hollingworth and Jacob Croswell made good runs, Aiden Sheard was tackled short of the line just before half-time.

Moor continued their lively display at the start of the second half with Wadsworth and Connor Gavaghan driving them into a good position for Archie Bruce to score from close range, with Hollingworth adding the conversion.

Moor’s lead was short lived though as Wortley clicked into gear and scored 22 points in just 25 minutes to race into a 28-12 lead.

Dewsbury Moor responded with a spell of pressure and after mounting a series of attacks, Billy Yarrow produced neat footwork to score an unconverted try to give his side hope.

As full-time approached, Wortley finished stronger and added a further converted try to seal victory.

Defeat leaves Moor fourth in the table, eight points behind second placed Doncaster Toll Bar and a further two off leaders Sherburn.

Moor have six Pennine League games remaining and are due to travel to Swillington this Saturday.
