Dual captaincy roles at Rams

DEWSBURY coach Glenn Morrison has revealed the Rams will have dual captaincy roles for the coming season.

The Rams’ longest serving player, winger Austin Buchanan, will be club captain, with half-back Scott Spaven named as team captain.

Morrison explained: “Austin has been here a long time and I want him to continue to be the face of the club.

“Spaven will be team captain and will be making the decisions on game day.

“He’s a half-back and spends a lot of time around the ball and I’m delighted that both have accepted the roles.”

Spaven will lead the Rams out for Sunday’s pre-season game at home to big spending Halifax (kick off 3pm).

Morrison took plenty of positives from the Boxing Day game at Batley, despite the Rams slipping to a 28-18 defeat and he will look for further improvement from the Halifax game and the following week’s clash at home to Bradford Bulls.

Morrison added: “We had the chance of playing other sides but I wanted us to play three top teams.

“We had a good run out against Batley when we got some of the cobwebs out but there are areas we can work on against Fax and the Bulls.

“It is all about getting mentally and physically ready for the first game.

“Halifax have brought in some Super League players and I expect them to be a top-two team. They had a good win on Boxing Day and it will be a tough match but the boys are ready.

“I hope a good crowd come to watch as it’s an important part of our pre-season.”

Morrison has revealed that Dewsbury will wear their new red, amber and black strip, including correct squad numbers, for the first time on Sunday.

The Rams were forced to wear a changed strip of all white on Boxing Day, due to concerns of a potential clash with Batley’s kit.

Morrison said: “All the players have individually fitted shirts and will be wearing them on Sunday, hopefully a lot of people in the crowd will also have their new shirts on.”
