Dyson and Limbechaya hit centuries in Birstall victory

A magnificent fourth-wicket stand between Matthew Dyson and Rishy Limbechaya set Birstall on their way to an 82-run win over East Ardsley in Allrounder Bradford League Championship Two last Saturday.

The pair shared a stunning unbroken stand of 238 and both made centuries which helped Birstall rack up an impressive total of 303-3.

Dyson hit six sixes and 17 fours while making 142 not out while Limbechaya’s 107 not out contained four sixes and 13 fours.

East Ardsley’s reply was led by Gary Jennings, who fell four runs short of a century, while Haseen Bashir made 48 but they were bowled out for 226 as Ryan Gray (3-54) and Peter Gregerson (3-56) impressed.

Birstall are third, just seven points behind Wakefield St Michaels, while East Ardsley drop to third-bottom and are now just two points outside the relegation zone.

Spen Victoria moved out of the bottom two after a 76-run win over Bowling Old Lane.

Ollie Davison (68) and Evan Edwards (59) shared a third-wicket stand of 109 as Spen posted 243-9.

Joe Wood (4-46) and Nathan Cant (4-62) produced fine bowling spells in reply and although Ayyaz Akram made a hard hitting 86, Old Lane were dismissed for 167 and the win was enough to see Spen jump above Hopton Mills and Ardsley.

Hopton are now second-bottom after they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Brighouse, who kept alive their promotion hopes.

Ashley Mackareth (34) was the only Mills batsman to make an impression as they were bowled out for 136, with Mohammed Wahab taking 6-33.

Brighouse opener Deron Greaves (56no) and Sohail Hussain (38no) helped their side overhaul the modest total.

Second-placed Wakefield St Michael’s reduced Keighley lead at the top to 16 points after beating them by 43 runs in the early-morning clash at Lawkholme Lane.

Opener Mark Atkinson (60), Ayaz Seedat (47) and Charith Cooray (45) provided the foundations for a total of 227-7 despite another fine bowling performance from Paul Quinlan (5-51).

Louis Horsfield (61) and Nathan Storton (32) led the Keighley reply but they fell short of their target and were bowled out for 184. Tom Robinson was the pick of the bowlers with 4-26.

Both St Michaels (163) and Birstall (156) have a game in hand on leaders Keighley (179).

Altofts made the day’s highest total of 325-6 on their way to a 63-run win over Carlton.

Farroukh Alam smashed eight sixes and 14 fours on his way to 141, while Myles Robinson was agonisingly dismissed for 99 after putting on 171 for the fourth wicket with Alam.

Carlton were bowled out for 262 with Daniel Ford (57) top scoring as Liam Webb took 4-36.

Paul Carroll hit 122 and shared a third-wicket stand of 197 with Jonathan Burston (72no) as Buttershaw St Pauls chased down Northowram Fields total of 211 to secure a seven-wicket win.
