Dewsbury-born Sam Burgess has been included in the England Rugby Union World Cup squad.

Burgess began his rugby league career playing for Dewsbury Moor before successful stints with Bradford Bulls and South Sydney Rabbitohs, who he helped win Australia’s NRL.

Burgess was part of the England RL team who reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2013 before the 26-year-old converted to rugby union and made his debut for Bath last November.

Burgess was handed his first England cap against France earlier this month and now gets to appear on the biggest stage of all, after he was named in Stuart Lancaster’s World Cup squad yesterday.
