Fellows to lead league side against Yorkshire

Hanging Heaton’s Gary Fellows will captain the JCT600 Bradford League side against a full-strength Yorkshire outfit at Pudsey Congs on Monday.

The former Yorkshire all-rounder played 48 first class games and a further 96 one day matches during a seven year county career.

He was also the Bradford League’s leading run scorer last season, with 885.

Hanging Heaton teammate David Stiff is also included in the representative side, along with Cleckheaton duo, wicketkeeper Mally Nicholson and opening bowler Curtis Freer.

The match will take place as part of Yorkshire’s NatWest T20 Blast preparations, while forming part of Dewsbury-born Richard Pyrah’s benefit.

Cleckheaton’s Andrew Gale is expected to lead the county side, while Yorkshire are also set to include Aaron Finch and World Cup winner Glenn Maxwell.

The match starts at 6pm and hosts Pudsey Congs will be holding a number of fundraising activities to boost Pyrah’s benefit fund.

n Fellows fell agonisingly one-run short of a Bradford League Twenty20 Cup century as Hanging Heaton defeated Scholes to reach the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Fellows was stranded at the non-strikers end on 99 not out for the final three balls of Heaton’s innings.

He hit a 38-ball half-century and his innings included nine fours and four sixes as Heaton closed on 196-2 before restricting Scholes to 148-6.

Woodlands reached the last eight after they overcame East Bierley by five wickets.

Dannis Hussain (38) top scored in Bierley’s 135-6, of which Sarfraz Ahmed claimed 3-19, while Duncan Snell made a splendid 72 to steer Woodlands to victory and set up a quarter-final against Bradford and Bingley on Tuesday June 2.
