Bordman helps Fishercut Oak down to size

St John Fisher OB 3

Oak Tree Pub 0

ST JOHN Fisher OB sent Hyton-based Oak Tree Pub crashing out of the FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup at sun-drenched Clayborn writes Andrew Hunt.

The Heavy Woollen Premier Champions Fisher were expected to face a stern test against a side who had won the double last term but the Merseyside visitors had little answer to Rob Bordman.

The former Liversedge player, who now turns out of Old Batelians on a Saturday, bagged an 18 minute first half hat-trick and could easily have scored more but for a superb display from Oak Tree goalkeeper Alex Duvall.

Oak Tree brought an impressive travelling support with them and they could not have failed to be impressed with the superb display from Bordman.

He gave Oak Tree and early indication of his capabilities when he curled a 25-yard free-kick over the wall but Duvall made a brilliant diving save to his right, tipping the ball round the post.

Another Bordman free-kick from the right, just evaded a host of on rushing forwards as Fisher dominated the early stages.

They deservedly went ahead after 23 minutes when a lovely passing move ended with Dave Bordman slipping a ball through to his brother.

Rob Bordman beat the offside trap and thumped the ball under Duvall before wheeling away to celebrate in front our photographer Paul Butterfield.

Rob Hiscox made a fine run down the left and his crossed was only half cleared but Dave Bordman scuffed his shot wide.

Hiscox again did well and this time fed Rob Bordman, who composed himself and drilled hard and low into the bottom left corner, giving Duvall no chance.

Bordman then completed his hat-trick in the 41st minute to put Fisher out of sight.

Andrew Riordan did well on the right and fed Bordman, who fired across Duvall into the bottom corner to put the Dewsbury men 3-0 up at half-time.

Oak Tree came more into the game after the break with substitutes John Murphy and Kevin Brown giving them a new lease of life.

However, it was Rob Bordman who continued to be the major threat.

Duvall produced another top diving save to deny Bordman a fourth goal and soon after Fisher’s star man crossed for Anthony Doran to head over.

Bordman drilled another effort just over the crossbar and having broken the offside trap, he raced in on goal, turned a defender inside out but found Duvall again in brilliant form to deny him, although Fisher had done enough to reach the second round.
