Extra-time strike ends Jardy hopes

FOOTBALL can be cruel as Jardy Boys found out in the Spen Valley League’s Sonder Heating Cup final at Liversedge FC on Tuesday.

The Birstall side performed strongly in 90 minutes and created plenty of the chances with Rob Ives giving them the lead.

However, they were undone by a series of four injuries in 15 minutes which left them with 10 men for the latter part of the game.

BD3, from Bradford, came back at Jardy and equalised in the 85th minute through Intikab Alam to take the cup final into extra-time.

In the additional half-hour Jardy injuries began to tell and they tired.

BD3 player-manager Majid Ali came on to make all the difference. He had not intended to play, and even went for a 10K run on the morning of the game.

Then in the afternoon a player dropped out and he had no choice but to name himself on the bench. He made the change in extra-time and he scored the winner.

BD3 goalkeeper James Glasper received the man-of-the-match award.

The season is far from over for both sides as they are both in the Spen Valley Challenge Trophy semi-finals. Jardy play Ravensthorpe Rangers on Wednesday May 9 at Thornhill Cricket Club, kick-off 6.15pm while BD3 take on Oakwell in the other semi-final on Saturday May 12 at Beck Lane (2pm)

n In Saturday’s Spen Valley League Premier Division games, BD3 beat Ravensthorpe Rangers 5-2.

Ohifhan Yasin, Aman Yasin and Talat Mahmood plus two own goal saw BD3 triumph.

TVR had a 5-2 success over Thornhill United Seniors who had Aaron Kennedy and Bradley Parker on target.

Sam Prest fired a hat-trick while Bobby Canning and Tion Richards also scored as West Bradford Spartans edged home 5-4 against Quarry.

The visitors replied through Chris Bowman, Jack Turner, Brad Jackson and Craig Sykes.

Leaders Bradford had Gurpal Bhamra, Azir Gulzar and Shaun Addy on target in their 3-1 victory at Girlington.

The win saw Bradford move six points clear in the Premier Division of second-placed Jardy Boys who have two games in hand.

In Division One Howden Clough had a fine 5-4 win at Bradford All Stars after the sides were tied 2-2 at the break.

Amriaz Najib (two), Waqas Ali and Muddasser Idrees scored for the hosts but Clough took the points thanks to goals from Adrian White, Phil Clarke, Jason Stainburn, Joe Naydorff and Gary Woods.
