Huddersfield Town got their pre-season off to a perfect start with a 4-1 win against SC Portimonense on Saturday.

Swedish triallist Markus Holgersson netted the fourth goal after Joe Lolley, Adam Clayton (penalty) and James Vaughan had been on target in a solid performance.

Town’s line-up for the match against their Second Division opposition was in a 3-5-2 formation and included new signing Joe Murphy in goal.

Lolley played centrally and scored from a Paul Dixon cross after 11 minutes, firing home after a neat turn.

Nahki Wells was brought down in the 26th minute for the penalty which Clayton dispatched, and Vaughan’s goal came with a bicycle kick from a Dixon throw.

Holgersson turned the ball home in a crowded penalty box with an hour gone, while Portimonense scored their consolation after 79 minutes.

Robins says Town will now step up their training work as they look towards the Championship opener against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 9.

He also stated Town will field a strong side at Guiseley tonight, Monday (7.45pm) and there are no injury problems to report.

The Terriers will be looking to build on their solid performance and will be expecting a much tougher test against the Lions who kept Leeds United out for 85 minutes in their last game.

Huddersfield Town could play the same staring XI that played against SC Portimonense on Saturday: Joe Murphy; Murray Wallace, Lee Peltier (Tommy Smith), Markus Holgersson (Joel Lynch); Paul Dixon (Jake Carroll), Adam Clayton (Matt Crooks), Joe Lolley (Harry Bunn), Jonathan Hogg, Adam Hammill (Jordan Sinnott); James Vaughan (Martin Paterson), Nahki Wells.
