Becchio adds to Leeds United injury worries

LUCIANO Becchio is the latest injury doubt for Leeds United after being taken off as a precaution during the second half of Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Hull City.

Whites boss Neil Warnock said that after his top scorer had picked up an ankle knock it was not worth the risk of keeping him on the pitch with more games coming thick and fast and two more home matches in the next week against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Warnock has had to come to terms with losing first midfielders Paul Green and David Norris to injury then left-back Adam Drury and striker Ross McCormack, who after undergoing a scan this week is now likely to be out of action for up to two months.

He is hoping Becchio does not add to that list in the run up to Saturday’s game against Forest.

He said: “Becchio banged his ankle. We had to be careful.

“It’s alright him carrying on and then we lose him for a month. I didn’t want that.

“We’re already without Ross and we know he will be out for six to eight weeks now.

“It might be that he needs an operation on Friday because he chipped a bone alongside the ligaments.

“It’s as bad as you can get from a twisted ankle without breaking it.”
