LIVERSEDGE slipped to a disappointing defeat away to Pickering Town in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday.

Although Sedge made a bright start and created a couple of early chances, three errors proved their undoing.

Liversedge could have taken a fifth minute lead when Tate Williams and Jarrod Peltier linked but Matthew Bugg headed the resulting cross over.

Williams saw a shot fly over the crossbar before Sedge goalkeeper Paul Hargreen made two good saves to deny Ged Dalton and Liam Shepherd.

Although Hargreen earned praise for the two saves, he was at fault for Pickering’s opening goal after 34 minutes as Dalton’s tame shot from the edge of the area crept past him and into the net to put the home side ahead.

Liversedge were looking to regroup at half-time but deep into stoppage time at the end of the first half, they conceded a second when Liam Salt was allowed a free header from a cross to nod past Hargreen.

Liversedge needed to make a good start after the break if they were to get anything out of the game but they conceded a third just two minutes after the re-start.

Hargreen mis-kicked a clearance straight to Salt, who had the simple task of slotting the ball into an empty net.

James Riordan bent a free-kick round the wall but it was brilliantly tipped round a post, while new signing Myles Sturridge made a lively contribution from the bench. Sturridge spotted the Pickering goalkeeper off his line and attempted an ambitious long range lob which clipped the outside of a post and landed just wide.

In the final minute Liversedge had a chance to grab a consolation goal but substitute Danny Toronczak headed Bugg’s cross into the side netting to sum up a disappointing afternoon.

Liversedge: Hargreen, Hewitt, Rothell, Cooper, Leach, J Riordan, Peltier (Toronczak 55), Thompson (Corley 55), Bugg, Williams (Sturridge 75), Hirst. Sub (not used): Wardman.
