Scholes reach Challenge Trophy final and face double chasing Roberttown

Scholes will now face double chasing Roberttown Rovers in trophy the final, which is scheduled to take place at King George V playing fields on Wednesday April 19 (kick off 7.30pm).

Roberttown can clinch the first part of a league and cup double this Sunday if they beat Clifton Rangers Reserves in their final Division One game of the season.

Roberttown moved four points clear at the top last Sunday after Adam Williams bagged a hat-trick in their 5-1 win over Old Bank WMC.

Taylor Biggins and Mathew Bolton hit the others, with Will Evans netting Old Bank’s consolation.

With Scholes Athletic in cup semi-final action, Saville Arms climbed to second with a 3-1 win over Ravenswharfe (Sam Hewitt).

Saville Arms and Scholes both have a game in hand on Roberttown and will be hoping they slip up this Sunday.

Alan Nicholls and Richard Carter scored for Deighton WMC as they climbed to fifth with a 2-1 win at Clifton Rangers Reserves.

The only Heavy Woollen Sunday League Premier Division fixture to take place last weekend saw Navigation climb to sixth with a 5-4 win at Mount Pleasant.

Mount drop into the bottom two despite doubles from Faisal Adam and Abdullah Mayat.

Overthorpe Sports Club Reserves all but wrapped up the Division Two title with a 4-1 win at Dewsbury United.

Matthew Thorpe, Michael Hutton, Tom Thorpe and Jack Allerton netted for the leaders with Michael Thompson replying for Dewsbury, who must win all of their eight remaining games and hope Overthorpe do not win one of their final two in order to claim the title.

Wire Works lie in second place, 10 points off the pace with three games remaining, after Craig Smith (brace) and Nolan St Hilaire scored in a 3-3 draw with fourth placed Linthwaite Reserves, who replied through Marcus Paul, Rhys Dunne and an own goal.

St John Fisher maintained their hopes of a Sunday football treble after defeating Woodkirk Valley on penalties in their delayed Heavy Woollen District FA Brook Butler Cup quarter-final.

The sides were locked 1-1 before Fisher won the shoot out 3-1 to set up a semi-final with Mirfield Town on April 30.

Premier Division leaders Fisher face AFC Chickenley in the Heavy Woollen Challenge Cup semi-final at Overthorpe Sports Club this Sunday (11am) for the right to meet Linthwaite in the final.
