Town scrape a point

HUDDERSFIELD Town had to rely on an own goal to secure a point at Colchester.

Goalkeeper Alex Smithies was at the heart of the excitement at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. His third minute clearance fell to Stephen Gillespie who lobbed it into the goal to give Colchester the edge.

Smithies redeemed his mistake with a brilliant penalty save from Anthony Wordsworth’s goalbound effort.

Still play-off contenders Colchester were on course for victory until the first minute of injury time when home defender Magnus Okuonghae headed into his own net to give Town a point.

Town remain fourth five points behind both Sheffield clubs but with a game in hand.

Tomorrow night Town travel to bottom of the table Chesterfield in search of a vital three points, kick-off 7.45pm. They take entertain leaders Charlton on Saturday.
