Young Terriers through to next round after strong win

Coach Frankie Bunn selected a completely different side to the one that played in the league game on Monday.

In contrast to the experienced side used in the league, no overage players were in the squad, and only four players could boast of having a handful of first team games.

Despite Barnsley controlling the early possession, it was the Terriers who created the better chances and should have scored early in the game.

Daniel Carr released Ben Atkinson down the right, and the ensuing cross by Jordan Sinnott was unable to be guided home by Carr.

Sondre Tronstad came close shortly after forcing a good save from Adam Davies with a firm volley from outside the area.

The best chance of the half for Bansley came in the 30th minute when Darren McKnight curled a free-kick just over the bar.

Carr forced Barnsley keeper Davies to make another good save with a quick thinking snapshot, before Sinnott forced Davies into action again with a screaming shot that the keeper needed two attempts to keep out.

Matt Crooks came the closest to opening the scoring in the first half but his shot cannoned off the crossbar and away from goal leaving the score locked at 0-0 going into the break.

Huddersfield started the second half in much the same fashion as they ended the first, and were rewarded in the 48th minute.

Sinnott went on a good run down the left, and his inch perfect cross found Flo Bojaj unmarked at the back post for the striker to power his header home.

Bojaj almost had an assist to his name as well after some good work by the striker freed Carr, but he failed to guide his shot on target and it went just wide of the post.

Barnsley produced a good spell in the last ten minutes of the game, but never looked like scoring.

Allinson saw his free kick sail just over the cross bar as Huddersfield never looked in danger of losing their lead.

With Huddersfield now through to the next round, they will now play in the Round of 32 in late November, when the Category 1 Academies join the competition.
