Fortis efforts in vain as Moorlands defeated

Moorlands suffered two defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend as they slipped to third bottom in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership.

The Memorial Park side suffered a seven-wicket defeat to unbeaten leaders Scholes on Saturday before losing by 19 runs against Shepley on Monday.

Andrew Fortis led the way for Moorlands, scoring 68 against Scholes, with support coming from Michael Rounding (31) but they were bowled out for 162 as T Brook (4-56) and J Brook (3-31) did the damage before J Carter (74) and T Boorman guided Scholes to victory.

David Winn was the leading Moorlands bowler against Shepley as he claimed 3-71.

T Denton (83), D Wood (59) and C Smith (57no) led Shepley to Shepley 266-4.

Fortis led the Moorlands with a fine knock of 85 but although support came from J Maxwell (30), they were restricted to 247-9 as O Davidson claimed 4-56.

n Heckmondwike and Carlinghow suffered a 113-run defeat to Edgerton and Dalton in the Huddersfield Central League Premier Division last Saturday.

Edgerton were led by a magnificent 142 not out by Soyeb Gheewala and although Paul Cooper finished with 4-80, Edgerton posted 227-8.

Fahad Imam (25) top scored in reply as Heckmondwike were dismissed for 114.

Muhammad Hashmi (56) and Imran Akhtar 41 led Heckmondwike and Carlinghow B to 195 all out in their Section A game against Horbury Bridge, who were 119 all out in reply with Adnan Rawat claiming 5-17 and Ahktar 3-41.
