TWO amateur golfers from the Spen Valley were runners up at a tournament in the Algarve, Portugal.
Richard Cooper from Gomersal and Andrew Newby of Birkenshaw took part in the How Did I Do National Grand Matchplay finals for pairs.
The tournament was played on different courses in the Algarve over five days.
The final placings couldn’t have been closer, with three pairs finishing level on points after the five days.
The tournament was decided on head-to-head results and although the Spen pair were edged out to the runners-up spot, they were delighted with their performances over the week.
Cooper is a member of the Wakefield Golf Club, while Newby plays at East Bierley Golf Club.
