Hanging Heaton target unique trophy treble in Priestley Cup final

Heaton captured the Heavy Woollen Cup earlier this month, while their second team won the Priestley Shield a fortnight ago, so they are chasing a third trophy in four weeks.

However, Mark Lawson’s men face a stern test if they are to win the Priestley Cup for the first time since 1986 when they tackle Lightcliffe at Farsley (start noon).

Like Heaton, Lightcliffe are a side packed with quality players. They are captained by former Yorkshire batsman Chris Taylor and are hoping that Yorkshire’s Moin Ashraf will be available to spearhead their bowling attack.

Gary Fellows has already one final man-of-the-match award to his name having taken the honour in the Heavy Woollen final against New Farnley on August 4.

Fellows has scored a staggering 1,309 runs in league and cup competitions this season.

That tally consists of 805 in the Bradford League, 209 from four Priestley Cup innings’ at an average of 52.25, and a further 295 in the Heavy Woollen.

Heaton’s playing chairman John Carruthers will also be determined to get his hands on the only major trophy in local cricket to elude him.

Carruthers was part of the Hanging Heaton side who lost against East Bierley the last time they reached the Priestley Cup final in 2000.
