Hartshead Moor will be aiming to put a spoke into Spen Victoria’s Bradford League Division Two promotion hopes in a tasty derby tomorrow.
Spen are in superb form and are sandwiched between the two pre-season promotion favourites, Farsley and New Farnley.
Although New Farnley have reached a first Heavy Woollen Cup final, promotion was their main target, although Spen are planning to spoil that particular party.
With experienced duo Rob Burton and Tosh Baker leading the way, Spen are well set with 11 matches remaining.
They trail leaders Farsley by 16 points but are 24 clear of New Farnley and play both their promotion rivals over a crucial double weekend at the end of this month.
Hartshead are back in 10th place but are targeting a derby win and have former Spen player Will Smith in form as he claimed five wickets and hit 60 not out in last week’s victory over Great Horton.
Having taken over at the top, Cleckheaton will look to consolidate their place as new leaders when they entertain Baildon.
John Wood’s men will be wary of their opponents, who have already claimed a notable league double over champions Woodlands, but an emphatic victory would send a clear message of intent from the Moorenders.
Opener Tim Jackson is in magnificent form and his 84 in last week’s victory over Pudsey St Lawrence keeps him top of the first division run scoring charts.
Woodlands will aim to bounce back from three straight defeats and they entertain Saltaire.
East Bierley travel to Pudsey Congs aiming to build on last week’s victory over Bradford & Bingley and climb into the top five in Division One, while Gomersal are away to Keighley in Division Two.
