Hartshead and Clough seal impressive cup successes

Hartshead eased into the West Riding County Challenge Cup fourth round with an impressive 7-2 victory over Warley Rangers last Saturday.

The West Yorkshire League outfit will now entertain either Carlton Athletic or Lepton Highlanders with the tie due to be played on January 2.

Littletown’s involvement in the competition came to an end as they suffered a 6-2 defeat at Ilkley Town.

The match was switched to a 3G pitch and it was Ilkley who adapted to the surface better as Connor Greenwood led the way with four goals.

Lee McKeown and Robin Knight replied for Littletown but it wasn’t enough as they bowed out.

Howden Clough eased into the West Riding County Trophy fourth round with an emphatic 13-1 victory over idle, to set up a trip to Rothwell Reserves on January 2.

Lower Hopton Reserves slipped to a 13th defeat of the season, going down 8-1 away to Thornton United in the West Riding County Amateur League Division Two last Saturday.

Goals from Danny Walker (three), Josh Milner (two), Liam Carrol and Roby Rawcliffe were enough to seal Thornton’s win, which lifts them up to second place.

Wyke Wanderers suffered a 3-0 defeat at Leeds City in the West Yorkshire League Premier Division and remain just a point above the bottom two. Andrew Crossland and Barrie Frankland were among City’s scorers.

St John Fisher’s mounting fixture congestion continues to worsen after last week’s West Riding County Sunday Cup clash against White Eagles was postponed for a second time.

Fisher have been forced to re-arrange the clash for Sunday December 27, when most other teams are having a Christmas break.

Fisher are due to meet Millbridge WMC at Liversedge’s FC’s Clayborn in the Heavy Woollen District FA Brook Butler Cup this Sunday.

If they defeat White Eagles the following week, Fisher will travel to Ferrybridge Progressive in the County Cup fourth round on January 3.

Fisher then travel to Heckmondwike Sports Club in the Heavy Woollen Challenge Cup on January 10 and still have to play 12 league fixtures in the new year as they bid to retain their Premier Division title.

The pitches at Sands Lane in Dewsbury will be out of action until the new year after the River Calder burst its banks, leaving the venue flooded.
