Hightown call theshots in cup final

HIGHTOWN saw off Hanging Heaton at Heckmondwike in the Saturday Parks Heavy Woollen Knockout Cup final.

This first division final finished 192-148 with Hightown boasting seven winners and Hanging Heaton managing just three.

In the second division final, held at Royds Park, Millbridge B beat Soothill 140-122.

Millbridge had five winners to Soothill’s three.

Derek Robinson presented trophies to the winning sides.

n Geraldine Dickinson became only the second woman to win the Overthorpe Sports Club’s internal singles with an outstanding display.

Dickinson accounted for Korie Ripley 21-5, veteran Joe Parry 21-11, Michael Nutting 21-12 and David Jewitt 21-11.

The final started with Jewitt taking an early 4-2 lead before Dickinson got the jack and led superbly, moving out to 13-5.

Jewitt pulled back to 15-11 but Dickinson regained control for a deserved victory.

n The final of the £5,300 Brighouse Classic, sponsored by Naylor Wintersgill (Chartered Accountants) on Saturday includes three previous winners - Gary Ellis (Whitefield), Simon Coupe (Preston) and holder Graeme Wilson (Audenshaw), who all feature in the bottom half of the draw.

The final gets underway at 5.30pm with £1,000 prize for the overall winner.

In Division 2, Lower Hopton +11 overcame Mirfield OB B scr, and in Division 3, Harold Club +13 lost to Millbridge A +1.

Paul Dudley and Jimmy Derby (Radcliffe) beat Stuart Goodwin and Carl Armitage (Warrington) 58-43 to book their place in the intermediate stages of the Mirfield OB Autumn Double.

Darren Plenderleith and Ant Aldridge (Tamworth) are the first semi-final qualifers after overcoming Charlie Weaver and Andy Duckett (Shrewsbury) 55-36 on Monday.
