Hirst leads way at Bumpy Trials Club

Yorkshire ACU President and Bumpy Trials Training manager, Julian Ford, laid out the usual three courses of eight sections ridden over five laps.

The hard course lived up to it’s name and took plenty of marks from the Championship contenders.

The Clubman course was set out just right for the likes of young Charlie Mosley, who continues to improve and recorded a very creditable second place.

Older competitors Bob Moore, riding his Gas Gas for a change, and PJ1 oil king, Richard Thorpe, who won the class on his superb James.

The easy route was very well attended and enjoyed by all the riders.

Louis Wassell competed for the first time on his new 125 Gas Gas and did very well and the electric expert Henry Stephenson threaded silently through the flags on his Oset.

Returning to trials riding after a long break was local rider Simon Hirst, who won the hard course with some very stylish riding watched with pride by his son who is about to take up the sport.

Nathan Major came in second 10 marks adrift with Jordan Ashington in third place.

Sections one and five were the strongest tests, the first having plenty of mud and No5 plenty of rocks.

Hirst showed the younger riders the way over the tight tricky slabs with excellent no-stop performances only dropping a total of five points on this test.

If the riders and bikes had managed to keep fairly clean so far, they were in for a shock at Section Seven, observed by the clerk of the course.

Straight after the start flags it dropped into a deep muddy puddle which needed good speed then up slippery ground and twisted through trees to end.

Results: Hard Route: S Hirst (Sherco) 42, N Major (GasGas) 62, J Ashington (GasGas) 85.

Clubman Route: R Thorpe (James) 18, C Mosley (Beta) 32, R Moore (GasGas) 46.

Easy Route: L Bricklebank (GasGas) 21, H Stephenson (Oset) 23, M Crick (Sherco) 28.

n The final Championship positions will be published on the Bumpy website along with details of the prize presentation and bonfire party night, which is open to all with a pie and peas supper and firework display.

n GOLF: Sandra Shackleton (20) won the East Brierley Golf Club Ladies’ Section EWGA Medal with a nett round of 78.

Second was Lynne Durham (33) also with a nett 78, and Geraldine Berry (18) was third with a nett score of 83.

n ATHLETICS: Dewsbury Road Runners’ Treena Johnson was the first female finisher in the over-50s section of the recent Jersey Marathon with club-mate Heather Mitchell the first over-60 female athlete across the line.

Tom Howard, meanwhile, was the first club man home in the latest Dewsbury Parkrun.

Jersey Marathon: Treena Johnson was 49th of 428 in 3 hrs 13 mins 27 secs and first female over 50; Heather Mitchell was 304th in 4:19:07 and first female over 60.

Mablethorpe Marathon: Michael Kelly was 215th of 243 in 4:45:51.

17th Dewsbury Parkrun: 5 Tom Howard 20 mins 01 secs; 14 Anthony Audsley 22:22; 18 Bernard Disken 23:09; 30 Phyllis Cao 25:58; 31 Michael Kelly 25:58; 38 Anne McQueen 26:17. 59 finishers.
