Jeffries strikes gold at quadrathlon World Cup

Rob Jeffries, from Lindley in Huddersfield, competes for Pennine at quadrathlon, which is similar to a triathlon with the added discipline of kayaking thrown in.

Jeffries travelled to Bude, in Cornwall, for the final race of the 2014 World Cup Quadrathlon series and he returned having been crowned both British and World Cup Under-23s champion.

The quadrathlon included a 1,500 metre swim, a 30k bike ride and a 10k kayak, followed by a 10k run.

Jeffries started slowly with his least favourite leg being the sea swim off the beach at Bude.

He finishing the swim mid table and transferred on to his far more favoured bike section.

Gaining a number of places on the way Jeffries then went into the 10km kayak leg in a good position to gain the places he needed to claim the Under-23s title.

He finished the kayak leg with the fastest split of the day and only needed to hold this position over the 10k run leg to win his age group, which he went on to achieve.

Jefferies has been a member of the Pennine Canoe Club since he took up kayaking at the age of 11.

He represented Great Britain at the Wildwater Kayaking World Cup in Austria this summer.

Jeffries is hoping to represent Great Britain at the international quadrathlon series around Europe in 2015 but as it is not an Olympic sport, there is limited funding.
