Kahut suffers knockout blow

DEWSBURY’S Zahid Kahut suffered a shock knockout defeat to Darlington’s Carl Wilson at the Aagrah Midpoint Hotel in Bradford on Tuesday.

Kahut – who was fighting out of the KBW mixed martial arts gym in Savile Town – went into the bout having won five of his nine professional fights and he felt confident following his victory against Howard Daley last time out.

Having lost his first four fights in the professional ranks, Wilson went into the fight on the back of two wins, but although Kahut was expected to defeat 26-year-old Wilson it wasn’t to be.

Wilson took the fight to Kahut from the start, targeting his chest, and had him on the back foot for most of the fight.

Kahut was hurt by a couple of heavy blows but managed to get through to the last of four three-minute rounds.

Wilson attacked at the start of the final session and caught Kahut with a fierce shot to the head, knocking the Dewsbury solicitor to the floor and he was unable to beat the count.

On the undercard, Shuzzy Hussain (31), from Halifax, earned a first win in the pro ranks, defeating Scotland’s Kenny Davidson on points after six two-minute rounds, while top of the bill saw Castleford’s Nathan Owens (22) beat John Anthony of Doncaster on points after four threes.
