Late goals end Lees’ WR Cup final quest

FOUR goals in the final seven minutes last Friday ended Thornhill Lees’ hopes of reaching the West Riding County Sunday Cup final.

Lees pulled back a two-goal half time deficit at county headquarters, Fleet Lane Woodlesford but opponents Halton Moor pulled clear late on to seal a 6-2 victory.

Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier side Halton Moor had much the better of the first half and led 2-0 at the interval.

Lees then rallied and scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half through Marc Griffiths and Scott Hargreaves to leave the tie nicely poised.

They battled hard with Neil Davis in fine form but could not breach the Moor ranks and late on Halton took charge to clinch their place in the final against West Bowling or Belle Isle WMC at county headquarters on April 26.
