Legends return to Dewsbury

Dewsbury Rugby League stars from the last 40 years, are set to lace up their boots once more as the Rams plan to stage a spectacular curtain raiser prior to their first Co-operative Championship home game of the season, against Toulouse on Saturday March 19.

The newly formed Dewsbury Legends side will take on a Great Britain All Stars team for the inaugural Eric France Metals Trophy.

Dewsbury fans of a certain age will remember Dennis Bailey storming up the wing of the old Crown Flatt and he has agreed to play, along with Chris Squires, Keith Mason and Paul Shuttleworth.

The legends teams will also feature Ryan Sheridan, Jimmy Elston and Richard Pachniuk while the club is waiting to hear from other stars including Nigel Stephenson, Alan Bates, Allan Agar, Chris Vasey, Barry Eaton and Neil Kelly.

Former Dewsbury full-back Nathan Graham and stand-off Francis Maloney are set to appear in the Great Britain All Stars side, which is also expected to include Ikram Butt, Graeme Hallas and Paul Newlove.

The Legends game will kick-off at 4.15pm (gates open at 3.45pm) before the Dewsbury Rams tackle Toulouse in their league match, kick-off 6pm.

n The Co-operative and the Rugby Football League have launched a ‘kids go free’ intitative, meaning children under 16, with a paying adult, will be able to attend Championship games during the school holidays free of charge.
