Liversedege win FA Vase thriller

LIVERSEDGE left it late to secure a thrilling FA Vase victory over North Shields at Clayborn last Saturday.

It took an 89th minute equaliser from James Rothell to rescue Sedge before substitute Kieran Corley grabbed a dramatic winner two minutes before the end of extra time.

Liversedge now travel to Shildon in the second qualifying round on September 15.

Sedge created several first half chances but it remained goalless at the break.

Adam Rowntree broke the deadlock for North Shields when he tapped home after a free-kick was parried.

Sedge supporters were heading for the exits when Rothell received the ball and produced a superb strike into the top corner to send the tie into extra time.

Liversedge dominated the opening period as the impressive Danny Cooper hit the crossbar with a shot from outside the area, Bojang then struck a post before seeing another shot hit the underside of the crossbar and was cleared off the goalline.

As North Shields tired, Rogerson fed Bojang but he lifted a shot over the crossbar with the goalkeeper on the floor.

Hewitt then fed Bojang, who spotted Corley’s run and slipped the ball through for the substitute to rifle home a 118th minute winner.

n Liversedge drew 1-1 with Retford United in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division on Tuesday. Chris Wood (26) gave Sedge the lead but Bobby Johnson levelled 17 minutes from time.

n Liversedge Reserves went top of the Lancashire Reserve League on Saturday after a 3-3 draw with Harrogate Railway.

Carl Ainley bagged a hat-trick, two of which came from the penalty spot, as Sedge maintained their unbeaten start.

n Vision earned a 6-1 victory over Bradford in their first game in the Spen Valley League Premier Division last Saturday.

Ben Stockwell and Anthony Wells hit two apiece, with Chris Lever and Adrian Simpson also on target.

Loz Balmforth netted as Marsh drew 1-1 with Ravensthorpe Rangers, while Mo Hazi struck for Savile Youth but Girlington levelled with a penalty.

Newcomers Cleckheaton Sporting lost 5-3 to Norfolk in Division One.

Ryan Forster (two) and Rich Chamberlain were on target for Cleckheaton but Norfolk took the points with I Farook, I Loonat and Kyle Audsley among the scorers.

Tony Yarnold and Johnny Beverley scored two goals each as Soothill beat Inter Batley 9-1. Williams, Ash Fallas, James Green and Ashley Barnes were also on target.

Paul Beaumont and Dominic Singleton bagged hat-tricks as Ravensthorpe Bulls beat Howden Clough, Mofhin Acha also netted a treble in Savile United’s 5-3 win over Bulls Head Dewsbury, while Heckmondwike Sports lost 4-3 to Fairbank.

n Robert Smith (three), Gareth Smith (two), Adam Kiscial and Dave Ward were among Dewsbury Rangers’ scorers as they opened their Wakefield League Division One campaign with a 9-6 victory over Woodhouse Hill WMC.

Thornhill lost 6-2 to Innter Crown in the Premier, while Old Bank WMC drew 2-2 with Altofts in Division Two.

Chris Sugden, Alex Peace and Jonathan Ginnelly hit a brace each, while Jake Peace was also on target as Dewsbury Rangers Reserves won 7-6 away to Wrenthorpe in Division Three.
