Liversedge, Birstall, Hopton and Crossbank suffer Jack Hampshire defeats

Liversedge, Birstall, Crossbank Methodists and Hopton Mills all bowed out of the Jack Hampshire Cup last Sunday, meaning there will be no local representatives in the quarter-finals.

Liversedge bowed out after suffering a 120-run defeat at the hands of Conference leaders Jer Lane.

Abubakar Dawood (71), Tom Watson (55), Nahim Ashraf (50), Chris Ramsden (47) and Michael Hustler (42) all made valuable contributions as Jer Lane racked up an impressive total of 306-5.

Will Atkins (40) and Paul Marlow (33) led the Liversedge reply but they lacked support and their side were dismissed for 186 as Amjid Khan (3-23) and Johnny Lister (3-25) were the main instigators.

Hopton Mills suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Sandal.

Ashley Mackereth (45) and Tristan Batley Kyle (35) top scored for Mills but they were bowled out for 183 as Ben Van Den Nieuwenhof (3-39) and Sam Noden (3-25) impressed.

An unbroken third-wicket partnership between Matthew Westwood (66no) and Karl Hewitt (56no) enabled Sandal to overhaul the Mills total with ease.

Birstall bowed out after losing by four wickets to Brighouse.

Opener Ian Carradice led the way with a fine innings of 84 but he was the only Birstall batsman to make an impression as they were bowled out for 173 with Abid Awain returning impressive figures of 6-41.

Sabar Sarwant (57) ensure Brighouse reached their target to end Birstall’s hopes.

Crossbank Methodists’ hopes also came to an end as they went down by four wickets against Altofts.

Ebrahim Laher (51) and James Lord (46) were top scorers but Crossbank were restricted to 171-5 before Dominic Richardson (75) and Ben Walsh (41) ensured Altofts secured a four-wicket win.
