Liversedge enter critical stage of survival bid

Sedge will hope to play their first home match in a staggering 112 days when they welcome fellow strugglers Armthorpe Welfare to Clayborn on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Liversedge then host Clipstone on Tuesday (7.45pm) before travelling to second-bottom Brigg Town on February 27.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men are on an eight match losing run, dating back to October 31, which was also the last time they ran out at home.

However, Sedge remain positive at avoiding the drop after pushing title challengers Tadcaster for long periods last Saturday.

Tom Jackson drew Liversedge level with a stunning strike only for Tadcaster to eventually run out 4-1 winners, having scored twice in the final three minutes.

Rhys Davies gave Liversedge a 15th minute lead in Tuesday’s derby clash away to Garforth Town only for the home side to draw level through Greg Kidd.

A Danny Harris goal midway through the second half proved to be Garforth’s winner but there is hope that Sedge can get out of trouble.

They go into Saturday’s clash seven points behind third-bottom Armthorpe but with four games in hand they know victory will give them a timely confidence boost.

Sedge are also seven points behind second-bottom Brigg but have six games in hand and with 11 of their remaining 18 matches scheduled to be played at Clayborn, survival is still very much in their own hands.

Liversedge will face a manic March, when they are due to play nine league matches in the space of just 28 days, including five scheduled midweek games.
