Lincoln Moorlands 1

LIVERSEDGE had a good win last Saturday in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they worked hard to overcome relegation threatened Lincoln Moorlands.

Sedge were dealt a blow before kick-off when Danny Knight was initially named in the starting line-up but was taken ill and had to be replaced in goal by Lee Ashforth.

Simon Wood shot straight at the goalkeeper after 20 minutes, while Dave Bordman broke but fired wide.

Lincoln’s Tom Finnigan was sent one-on-one with Ashforth but the stand-in goalkeeper stuck out a foot to make a great save.

Rob Bordman, rested for Thursday’s trip to Staveley, opened the scoring after 35 minutes when he curled a free-kick low into the net and he almost doubled the lead moments later but his effort was cleared off the line.

Jerry White crossed for Dave Bordman but his header lacked power before Lincoln drew level on the stroke of half-time. Finnigan’s initial shot was saved by Ashforth but he followed up to slot home the rebound.

Ben Garrick shot wide for Moorlands, while Nathan Cartman blazed over for Sedge before the home side regained the lead in the 71st minute.

Cartman made a good run to the by-line and pulled the ball back across the face of goal, for Hallam to finish.

Sedge introduced Alex Ferguson, who has joined from Ossett Albion, he shot against a post before Cartman crashed the rebound against the underside of the crossbar. But they held on for a first win in six games.

LIVERSEDGE produced a fine effort despite depite losing at Northern Counties East League Premier Division title chasers Staveley last Thursday.

The game was switched because Staveley meet St Ives in the FA Vase quarter-final tomorrow and as Sedge were playing two games in three days, Billy Miller opted to swap and change things for both games.

Jerry White created an early Liversedge chance when he made a good run and played the ball across the face of goal but Dave Bordman and Nathan Cartman were unable to get on the end of it.

Liversedge made the brighter start but Staveley took the lead from their first attack when Jamie Smith broke and Dave Cockerill powerfully headed home his cross.

Soon after Alex Hallam went close to equalising when he hit the crossbar with a fierce 25-yard effort.

At the other end, Staveley hit a post, while Sedge goalkeeper Danny Knight tipped an effort over the crossbar to keep his side in the game at the interval.

Liversedge also made a bright start to the second half, Dave Bordman dragged a shot across the face of goal and Hallam ran into the area and found Nathan Cartman, who shot wide.

Cartman then turned provider for Hallam but the home goalkeeper made a good save.
