Liversedge earned a crucial point in their fight against relegation from the Northern Counties East League Premier Division on Tuesday night.

Sedge fought out a goalless draw at home to Retford United but it was enough to lift them above Pontefract Collieries on goal difference.

Both teams had shots which rattled the crossbar in the first half and Sedge piled on the pressure after the break as Benny Igiehon curled a shot just wide.

Liversedge almost snatched a 93rd minute winner when Retford goalkeeper Cooley could only watch as Brandon Kane’s shot struck the base of a post.

Liversedge are level on 33 points with Pontefract but still have two games in hand, while they are now just a point behind Brigg having played three games fewer.

Armthorpe Welfare could yet get dragged into trouble as they are just three points above Sedge having played the same number of games.

Sedge face their biggest game of the season on Saturday when they welcome bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare to Clayborn.

Nostell saw their relegation confirmed last Saturday when they lost 2-1 at Albion Sports and are already guaranteed to finish bottom.

Ponte Colls host mid-table Clipstone on Saturday and then play their final home league game next Wednesday against title chasing Handsworth Parramore.

Brigg play their penultimate game of the season on Saturday at home to Handsworth.

Liversedge suffered a 4-1 defeat to Worksop Town last Thursday, while Saturday’s game away to Retford was postponed and has been re-arranged for Tuesday May 3.

Worksop went into the game still with an outside chance of winning the title.

Andre Johnson put them ahead at half-time and added two more goals after the break to complete his hat-trick.

Conor Higginson was Town’s other scorer, with Vaughan Redford netting a consolation goal for Sedge from the penalty spot.
