Lower Hopton win to bag home clash in County Challenge Cup

Aiden Schofield, pictured in his days playing for Thornhill, was on target as Lower Hopton progressed to the West Riding County Challenge Cup third round with victory over Brighouse Town Development.

Hopton’s reward for winning their delayed second round tie is a home clash against St Nicholas on December 3.

Nathan James and Aiden Schofield struck either side of half-time to see Hopton safely through to the last 32.

Littletown’s home game against Honley was postponed and that saw them relinquish top spot in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division.

Golcar United regained pole position after a 7-2 win away to Overthorpe Sports, who did well in the first half when they held the visitors to 2-2.

Jack Allerton was among the Overthorpe scorers but Golcar upped the tempo after the break and scored a further five goals without reply to move two points clear of Littletown at the top.

Huddersfield YMCA are level on 25 points with Golcar but Littletown have two games in hand on both the joint leaders.

Hunsworth are four points adrift at the bottom of Division One after they suffered a 5-0 defeat away to leaders Holmfirth Town, who had Louis Langfield (three) and Paul Jagger (two) on target.

Lower Hopton Reserves were edged out 6-5 in an 11-goal thriller at Thornton United Reserves in Alliance Division One.

Wyke Wanderers moved level on 24 points with second placed Hartshead in the race for promotion from West Yorkshire League Division One.

Wyke took advantage of Hartshead’s inactivity as Karl Fawcett bagged a hat-trick and Sibusiso Moyo also netted in a 4-2 win over Swillington Saints last Saturday.

Both Hartshead and Wyke are four points behind leaders Hall Green United having played more games.

Howden Clough slipped to an agonising 4-3 defeat to Boroughbridge, who grabbed an 88th minute winner through Daniel Clayton.

Goals from Andrew Griffiths, Nathan Hallas and Scott Lightowler looked to have rescued Clough a point until the visitors earned all three points with the late winner.
