Moor power to Championship victory

Heavy rain did not help the game as a spectacle and it took Moor 20 minutes to get into their stride.

Centre James Eatherley opened the scoring with a try following good work by Anthony Boardman, James Delaney and Bradley Foster.

Moor maintained their momentum and winger Jordan Foster broke away to add a second try, with Richard Squires converting to put them 10-0 up at half-time.

Moor dictated the second half with some free flowing rugby.

Phil Shotton, Ben Hardacre and Adam Barrett produced hard graft, supported by Delaney and impressive handling from Jamie Samme and Ash Boddy.

Stand-off Squires benefited from the hard working pack and went in for two tries, one of which he converted to extend the lead to 20-0.

Allerton attempted a mini revival but were thwarted by substitutes Matt Shaw, Patrick Farrelly and Chris Mortimer.

Boardman led a Moor raid into Bywater territory with the move continued by Jonjoe Fox and ended with centre George Croisdale going in for the home side’s fifth try, which Squires goaled.

Peter Robinson came off the bench and grabbed a late try, which Squires improved, to end with a haul of 16 points.

Victory saw Moor move up to second place, two points behind leaders Doncaster Toll Bar, as they travel to third placed Huddersfield St Joseph’s on Saturday (ko 2pm).

Due to the number of Premier Division teams dropping out, the Pennine ARL have reorganised the league.

The Premier Division now has 11 teams with West Hull, West Bowling and Methley Royals either dropping out or moving to lower divisions.

The Pennine management left Drighlington out of the restructure as they have applied to join the National Conference League from February and the committee felt the league leaders would not be able to fulfil their fixtures in a league which is expected to run until May or June.
