Moor youngsters prove too strong for Marauders

Moor again fielded a young side, with just four players over the age of 20, but they had too much skill for the visitors as the home side picked up a third league win of the season.

They were well led by the versatile Bartley O’Brian, Bradley Foster and Scott Sheard, while the teenage pack tore into their much bigger opponents.

Tobias Richardson, John Bowness, Conner Ineson, Elliot Sheard, Louis Greenwood and George Croisdale refused to take a backward step.

It took 20 minutes of hard toil before the breakthrough game when Lewis Harvey, returning from injury, and fellow centre Jacob Flathers made good ground, which led to Croisdale striding over and Flathers converted.

Richardson, O’Brian and Bowness relished the front row battle, with scrum half Archie Bruce orchestrating their attacks.

Max Vernon came into the attacking line from full-back as the Moorends defence were put under pressure.

Croisdale broke clear from halfway and showed good turn of pace to race over for a try which Flathers goaled as Moor led 12-0 at half-time.

Moorends attempted to throw the ball about but Moor’s defence remained solid with Aiden Sheard, Danny McMerdott and Louis Greenwood making try saving tackles.

The lively Elliot Sheard left defenders flat footed with an elusive run to the line, with Flathers again converting.

O’Brian showed good leadership and he crossed for Moor’s fourth try to give them breathing space, with Flathers’ goal putting them 24-0 up.

Vernon added his name to the try scorers before Moor introduced 16-year-old Thomas Firth for his senior debut.

Good handling put Firth away down the wing and he took the chance, scoring at the corner before Brad Foster and O’Brian combined to put Archie Bruce away for the final try.
