Moorlands defeat Rastrick to book place in Huddersfield League Sykes Cup semi-finals

Moorlands progressed to the Huddersfield League Sykes Cup semi-finals for the first time, with a 61-run victory over Rastrick.

Moorlands posted an impressive 273 when they batted on Sunday, despite several rain interruptions.

Jared Maxwell blasted 102 and shared a 212-run stand with David Winn (91) to put Moorlands on course for their challenging total.

Play resumed on Monday evening, when Rastrick were bowled out for 202, with D Sykes returning superb figures of 5-38 from his 10 overs.

Moorlands are in fine form having settled into their first season in the top flight and they moved up to sixth place in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership last Saturday thanks to a 15-run victory over Broad Oak.

W Binns (73), Winn (39) and Maxwell (35) were among the runs as Moorlands reached 239-7, despite A Slack claiming 4-57.

H Booth (73) and M Leonard (31) threatened to lead Broad Oak to a successful run chase but they were eventually bowled out for 224 as Michael Padgett claimed 3-43.

Heckmondwike and Carlinghow moved up to second place in the Huddersfield Central League Premier Section last Saturday thanks to a 211-run victory over Bradley and Colnebridge.

Javed Iqbal top scored with an unbeaten 81, while Matthew Crowther (34) and Ilyas Hashmi (31no) supported as Heckmondwike reached 262-6.

Iqbal followed up his fine knock by claiming 4-5, while Paul Cooper supported with 3-22.

Jonathan Elstub took 2-2 as Bradley were shot out for just 51 in reply.

Adnaad Rawat (51) and Andrew Pickett (30) guided Heckmondwike and Carlinghow B to 171 all out against Almondburians in Section A.

Brian Hill claimed 2-41 in reply but was unable to prevent Almondburians securing a five-wicket win.
