CLECKHEATON RUFC have appointed Thiu Bernard as their new head coach following the club’s relegation from National Three North.

Barnard has spent the last three seasons with Sheffield Tigers, during which time he guided them to the National League Three North title and a 13th place finish in their first season in National League Two.

He also spent time as head coach at the Sheffield University side and at Manchester based Bowdon RUFC.

Barnard has appointed former former Sale, Lymm, Nottingham and Worcester stand-off Mike Swetman as assistant coach and player.

The coaching duo will introduce the schedule for pre-eason and the plans ahead for the year at a players meeting next Tuesday from 7pm.

The meeting will be followed by a game of touch and pass and a drink in the clubhouse.

Pre-season training then starts next Thursday at Albert Morton Pavilion, Whitcliffe Mount (start 7pm) and any new players interested can email for details.
