Josh Whitehead scored a try for Batley Boys in their win over Siddal last Saturday.

Batley Boys fought back from a half-time deficit to earn a 36-20 win away to last season’s Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division Grand Final winners Siddal Academy last Saturday.

The Boys made a fast start with forwards Gavin Davies, Sean Sheard, Jordan Brown, Lewis Hardy and Ryan Crossley leading the way.

Adam Bingham, Luke Sheridan and Josh Knowles linked for Josh Whitehead to score and Bingham converted before hooker Knowles dived over for a try from acting half-back.

Batley introduced substitutes Mark Grayshon, Matty Sheridan, Daniel Scales and Richard Lawley but it was Siddal who responded with three tries in the final 20 minutes of the half to lead 14-12, while the Boys had Ryan Crossley sin binned for a shoulder charge.

Davies, Sheridan, Aaron James and Whitehead drove Batley forward early in the second half and a kick from MoM Bingham kick saw winger Jonny Marsden collect to score and Bingham converted.

Siddal scored again but Gavin Davies replied with a try to edge the Boys back in front.

A wonderful run from Aaron James put Batley on the front foot and set up Josh Ritcher to score before Ryan Crossley crossed.

Luke Sheridan then scored a try which he improved to seal the win.

Batley welcome Norland Sharks to Halifax Road, Staincliffe, on Saturday (ko 2.30pm) when they target a third straight win.
