A GOAL six minutes into injury-time gave Parkgate maximum points and condemned Liversedge to a second successive defeat in the Northern Counties East League Premier on Tuesday.
It was a cruel blow for the Clayborners who had the better of the chances in a quiet contest with the strains of Saturday’s matches taking their toll. Liversedge had lost 3-0 at Tadcaster while Parkgate put eight past Barton Old Boys.
The versatile Damien Hopkins moved to centre half and had a great game, he is good in the air and reads the game well which is a great asset to his team mates.
Some of the best chances for Liversedge fell to Nathan Cartman but they were well saved or turned to safety. Chris Woods went close in the 65th minute his effort was tipped over the crossbar.
A draw would have been a fair result but deep into injury-time Parkgate put the pressure on and were awarded a corner. It was cleared but from a second corner Gareth Clayton headed past Waggett into the bottom of the net.
The final whistle came shortly afterwards giving Liversedge no time to respond.
Liversedge: Waggett; Larkin, White, Hopkins, Leach, Shuttleworth, Hurtley, Hanney, Woods, Cartman, Boardman. Subs not used; Jagger, Cooper, Wasley, Horsman, Knight.
Tadcaster Albion 3
LIVERSEDGE were below par as they slipped to defeat at Tadcaster in the Northern Counties East League Premier last Saturday.
Liversedge made a bright start and Dave Bordman flicked a third minute header on for Cory Larkin but his header was blocked on the line.
Joe Jagger’s fierce long-range strike was saved before Tadcaster struck to open the scoring. Jamie Hopcott produced a swerving long range shot which goalkeeper Danny Knight could only parry into his goal.
Albion doubled their lead in the 41st minute when a long ball allowed Danny Gray to nip between the two centre halves to fire home.
Steve Jeff headed an early second half chance against a post before Liversedge introduced Danny Cooper on the half hour and he created the visitors’ best chance.
Cooper chipped the ball through for Chris Hannay, who raced one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He rushed out to close the gap and Hannay clipped the ball over him but it went just wide.
The impressive Jeff completed Tadcaster’s win in the 88th minute when he cut in from the wing and fired past Knight.
Liversedge: Knight, Larkin, White, Hannay, Leach, Shuttleworth, Hurtley, Hopkins, Jagger (Cooper 60), Cartman, Bordman. Subs (not used): Wasley, Horsman.
