Simmonds leads way in U17s win

THORNHILL Under-17s saw off a spirited challenge from a Scarborough side, who had beaten them two weeks earlier, to earn a 16-10 victory.

Thornhill started well with scrum-half Luke Carter leading forwards Hickling, Simmonds, Lister and Mortimer around the field.

It took 15 minutes before Simmonds forced his way over and Palmer added the goal.

Thornhill kept the pressure on with good running form Tinker, Clough and Ryan allowing Simmonds to score his second try, Palmer again converting to put them 12-0 up at half-time.

Thornhill had to do a lot of defending early in the second half as Scarborough threw everything at them.

Simmonds, Lister and Hickling tackled well but the visitors scored a converted try.

Thornhill dug deep but Scarborough scored in the corner to reduce the deficit to 12-10.

An injury to the impressive Kyle Hammond saw Reece Hadden switch to hooker and he had his best game of the season.

A good try by Lister allowed Thornhill to secure a well-earned victory.

MoM was Brett Simmonds.
