SPENBOROUGH and District Athletic Club members struck gold at the Yorkshire Championships, held at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium, Cudworth last weekend.
The red and gold vest of Spenborough, worn by Ciara Flannery, broke the tape to win the Under-20 Women 400m final in a time of 57.66 seconds.
In the same race Spen’s Sasha Craig took bronze with a time of 58.75. Ciara also took a bronze medal in the Under-20 200m final.
Chelsea Mitchell earned a gold medal in the Under-20 womens shot putt with a throw of 10.61m, almost a metre over second-placed Emma Nixon.
Jenny Walsh, fresh from winning at the Olympic Stadium for Durham University, struck gold on the track to take the Yorkshire Under-20 800m title in a time of 2-08-37.
Ashton Greenwood won the Under-15 200m final in a time of 27.32 seconds, an impressive display in the tough windy conditions.
Callum Orange won silver in the Under-13 long jump final with a leap of 4.53m. Toby Aspindle was second in the Under-20 javelin final. Elliott Griffin came second in the Under-20 Mens hammer final. In the Under-15 javelin final Glenn Aspindle had to settle for second in the Under-15 javelin with Curtis Dransfield finishing sixth.
Chloe Mitchell took a bronze medal in the Under-15s girls discus event (22.89m) and Rachel Crorken was third in the Under-13 long jump final. After winning his heat Leon Greenwood was third in the Under-17 100m final in a time of 11.25 seconds. He also came third in the Under-17 200m final
Carl Foulstone claimed two bronze medals in the Under-20 400m hurdles in a time of 59.42 and in the Under-20 400m hurdles (59.42).
Veteran Sheila Bolland came sixth in the Senior Women’s shot putt which was won by World Champion Heptathlete and Olympic hopeful Jessica Ennis. Sheila also reached the finals of the hammer and the discus.
