Morrison relishing Rams HW derby with Bulldogs

Morrison spent part of yesterday clearing the Tetley’s Stadium pitch of snow and has appealed to fans to turn up to the ground today to help ensure the derby goes ahead.

Dewsbury were due to travel to Halifax last night for the first of two games over the Easter weekend but it is Monday’s clash which Morrison is most looking forward to.

Morrison saaid: “I used to love playing in the derbies and I am no different as a coach, I want to win for the fans and players.

“If you can’t get up for these games then you want to give in.

“I had a taste on Boxing Day but this is my first competitive (Heavy Woollen) derby and I’m looking forward to it.”

Dewsbury go into the weekend on the back of successive defeats but Morrison admits the players have worked hard in training and are raring to go.

James Craven was hoping to be fit to play against Halifax last night, while hooker Ryan Wright could be fit to face Batley as he recovers from an ankle injury.

There is also good news for winger and club captain Austin Buchanan and powerful forward Ben Jones, who are both set to make their comebacks in the Challenge Cup clash with amateurs Myton Warriors on Sunday April 7.

However, like many Championship clubs this weekend, Dewsbury are unlikely to be able to call on their dual-registration players as Super League sides also play twice over the hectic holiday period.

Morrison added: “We trained in the snow, which was a first for some players, and I was really pleased with how we did and the boys are determined to bounce back from the last couple of games.”
