Norristhorpe triumph in cup thriller

Norristhorpe Reserves progressed to the Yorkshire Amateur League's Hodgson Cup third round thanks to a 6-3 victory over Dewsbury Rangers Reserves.

A pulsating tie required extra time to be decided after Norristhorpe fought back from three goals down.

A Rangers forward latched onto a ball over the top to put them ahead and the lead was doubled from a free-kick and it remained 2-0 at half-time.

Rangers looked on course to progress after adding a third before Norristhorpe fought back.

Jack Brazier headed home to pull a goal back and former Rangers player Dan Sullivan made it 3-2 with eight minutes remaining.

Sullivan netted the equaliser two minutes from time to take the tie to extra time.

Zach Wood’s delightful lob put Norristhorpe ahead but Rangers responded and it took two excellent saves from Danny Newman to deny them.

Brad Wild capped off a fine display with a good finish to make it 5-3 and Chris Roome headed home to seal a terrific comeback win.

Wheelwright are through to the Hancock Cup third round following a 6-3 win over Morley Town Reserves thanks to goals from Kyle Kendrick (hat-trick), Darren Forthergill (two) and Andy Pilling.

Dewsbury Rangers fought out a goalless draw at Leeds Independent in Divsion One, while goals from Robert Johnson and Sam Newman couldn’t prevent Batelians losing 6-2 at Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves.

Jamie Sands, Braden Hunter and Chris Goodair netted as Batelians Reserves drew 3-3 with Shire academics Fourths.
