Nostalgia: Birkenshaw’s family of five generations
When Carl Aidan Kelly was born in 1984, he became the fifth generation of a family who all lived in Birkenshaw.
Carl lived with mum and dad, Mandy Louise and Andrew Kelly in Whitehall Road. Mandy’s mother was Mrs Jean Irene Smith, of Southcroft Avenue. Carl’s great-grandmother was Mary Irene Benton, of Moorville Drive. The oldest member of the family was Carl’s great-great-grandmother, 86-year-old Mrs Mary Newstead, also of Moorville Drive. Not only that, Carl would have had quite a job remembering all his relatives growing up, as he had quite a number of aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles and great great aunts and uncles.
