Nostalgia: Prizes dished out to Batley Grammar

Lord Baden-Powell, the eldest grandson of the man who founded the scouting movement, presented prizes at Batley Grammar School’s annual Speech Day in 1984.

He was joined on the platform at the school by the chairman of the governors, the Rev Canon Tattersall, Elizabeth Peacock MP and headteacher Ian Fellows.

Canon Tattersall opened, saying: “Any school which is to play a part in educating boys and girls, either together or single-sex schools, has to look forward.

“The headmaster and his well-qualified staff are always looking for ways to improve the scope and the quality of the academic education offered by the Batley Grammar School.”
